A few photos of the Western Railway Museum's Shell tank car.

In 1991, Shell Oil shop forces carefully restored a 1923 tank car and donated it to the Western Railway Museum.

Do you notice something a bit funny about the car? The footboards, perhaps?

The tank car was stored outside until 2007. It spent 16 years outdoors. This raises interesting questions about the durability of the paint.

Here is a close-up of the wood and paint. The splotches are lens flare, it's an artifact of my camera and the low-UV building lighting.

You can see where the heavy wood has pretty much turned to dust. However the paint remains in excellent condition. Both are the same age.
